The premiere of Superman & Lois Season 3 has left fans in awe with the introduction of a villain that is more threatening than Lex Luthor. The first episode of the show, titled "Closer," showed Clark Kent trying to keep his superpowers a secret from the public and Lois pondering the possibility of her pregnancy. Nonetheless, Clark is distracted by an invisible force that is set to cause more chaos than what Lex Luthor could have done. Fans have been eagerly awaiting the appearance of Lex Luthor, but Superman & Lois has introduced someone even more dangerous: Onomatopoeia.
#1. Superman & Lois' Onomatopoeia Messes With Superman's Hearing

Onomatopoeia, a character created by Kevin Smith and Phil Hester in 2002, was often a villain to Batman and went after those without any powers. He had a particular fondness for murder and destruction, and was known for his catchphrases, such as "snap," which he would use when carrying out his acts of violence. To demonstrate his power to Batman, he famously stabbed the Joker in the heart, shot Deadshot in the head, and slit Silver St. Cloud's throat.
Admittedly, the serial killer did come off funny at times, but Superman & Lois has Onomatopoeia cutting a more haunting figure. Things go off the rails in the finale when Kal-El battles a surprisingly powerful Atom-Man, who apparently escaped from prison. Atom-Man is shot by an unseen someone, but when Kal-El uses his X-ray vision, he finds no bullets. Onomatopoeia is responsible for it all by manipulating sound. The villain also has Superman take to the skies, thinking he hears disasters across Metropolis, but nothing's happening. It was a distraction that allowed Onomatopoeia to steal Atom-Man's body and escape, leaving the Man of Steel baffled.
#2. Superman & Lois Shapes Onomatopoeia as a Deadlier Threat

The unpredictability of Onomatopoeia makes them more frightening than Lex Luthor. It is unclear what they can do with sound, leaving viewers uncertain if they are capable of using it to take down Superman. Furthermore, the finale of the premiere revealed Onomatopoeia in Bruno Mannheim's lab, where they are seen using a serum to bring Atom-Man back to life, indicating they have the power to revive other criminals and potentially create an undead army.

Either way, this gives Onomatopoeia brutal weapons and a scarier edge than Lex. Granted, fans haven't witnessed Michael Cudlitz's version of Lex in action, but from what's been revealed, he's a recluse using his empire as part of some long game. To that point, Superman & Lois' Lex fits the glove of other versions across movies and TV, where the mastermind enjoys torturing Superman with mental tricks. Admittedly, those schemes came off a bit petty, leaving fans wondering why Lex didn't just streamline things and go for the jugular.
In Titans, the audience was briefly introduced to a version of Titus Welliver's Onomatopoeia, who was quickly killed off before they could see how lethal he was. However, the Onomatopoeia that will be featured in Superman & Lois is set to be even deadlier than before. Unlike his previous incarnation, this version of the villain does not need suits or Kryptonite to hurt Superman, and has access to powerful resources that allow him to carry out experiments and murders. This implies that Onomatopoeia will be a formidable opponent, one that Lex Luthor will have to work hard to surpass. Catch the show Tuesdays at 8:00 p.m. on The CW.
